Yet another year has passed with the blog but this last year has been a very silent one. At least the latter half. That is partly due to an increasing family but also because I have found very good current RPGs to play so I have not had any reason to look for older gems.
Even though the posts has shrinked to 20 last year from 36 the year before and comments from 100 to 41, the growth has been the same and are at the time of writing almost exactly 180.000 pageviews.
Only two games have truly been revisited: Arx Fatalis and Icewind Dale. The other games I have played like Legend of Grimrock 2, Lords of Xulima and Wasteland 2 are only reviews of current RPGs. But those three are also a resurrection and a tribute of an old genre. All three of them must be considered as a success for the developers.
With the exception of Risen 3 - a tragical decline of the brand - excellent titles such as Dragon Age 3 Inquisition and Witcher 3 has been released. Not to mention Pillars of Eternity. In summary I would say 2014-2015 was a very good year for all RPG fans.
I agree that it is a very good time to be a RPG player. To top it off, there are also many releases in the niches of MMOs (Elder Scrolls Online - Tamriel unlimited was surprisingly good) and console RPGs (have high expectations for Xenoblade Chronicles X).
ReplyDeleteOh, and Albion was released on gog.com, one of the defining RPGs of my childhood.
