Having beaten it several times, I could probably beat it in a month or two of dedicated play now, but only because I've got complete game maps (provided in-game with Wizardry Gold) and because I already know where to go and what I can skip. (ie., I bypass the entire Ratkin Ruins, and the resulting loot, simply because the water puzzles annoy me.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986955720568668168.post-29734209181054485352013-11-05T00:05:18.060+01:002013-11-05T00:05:18.060+01:00It's been a while since I played, but usually ...It's been a while since I played, but usually I don't worry about the maps too much. The NPC's fight each other, and given enough time, any maps owned by NPC's will tend to end up in the hands of the faction's leader. Then you can fight them or buy the map outright to get it. Also, the maps are really "hints", and in some cases you can get through an area even without having the matching hint/map.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986955720568668168.post-39337178970350158752013-06-10T12:46:53.781+02:002013-06-10T12:46:53.781+02:00Put points into the mapping skill for the characte...Put points into the mapping skill for the character that carries it. If you think you're clever by leveling up to 6 or 7 before leaving the starting area, you'd be wrong. the fights between the starter area and the town can be brutal. nice review. You noticed well that thi...Hi Saintus,
nice review. You noticed well that this is a time consuming game, the world is huge and you have to revisit certain areas. As I recall it took me about 6 months to finish the game and I played +12 hours every single day, though I was nuts, I mapped every single square of the map. I also had a notebook full of notes, codes, NPC quotes, maps, etc. A friend advised me to make notes, at the end, I don't think I would be able to finish the game without it.

Just a tip for those who plan to play, it's worth to spend few hours to carefully select the party. Aim for the high dice rolls. You definately want 3 strong warriors in the front row or you'll be dragging dead bodies around. Put casters in the second row for support. My setup was ninja-samurai-valkyrie-monk-bishop-mage.

And one anecdote...the most powerful weapon in the game is a stave, Cane of Corpus. It is held by Rattkin tribe leader, the old master thief. The problem is you have to kill him to get it, it is probably the toughest fight in the game as he will flee if he feels owerpowered, so you have to kill him and his party in the same turn. Akward thing that this stave can only be equipped by a female Faerie ninja, hence my tip about choosing a party. I actually restarted a game for a single purpose of equipping this particular item. :)

If any of you are interested in an oldskool dungeon crawler a la Dungeon Master, check this new game: www.grimrock.net

CheersNuWorldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986955720568668168.post-86500325862612734562012-04-02T08:57:09.208+02:002012-04-02T08:57:09.208+02:00Here are the links to the EotB remakes. They have an auto-map, same graphics as the PC, and better sound. I played through both of them, and other than some crashes at times when switching levels, they worked just fine. Oh, I did have problems importing my characters from EotB1 to EotB2, but I figured that out, and put a video on YouTube illustrating how I did so. :)

If you go here, there are a bunch of programming tools and such for the Dungeon Master games: http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=view/ToolsAmy K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10892876651484617812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986955720568668168.post-63782502419006574222012-03-31T23:59:02.418+02:002012-03-31T23:59:02.418+02:00I would like to play Wizardry 7 (for the first tim...I would like to play Wizardry 7 (for the first time), Dungeon Master I (also for the first time) and Eye of the Beholder I, II (to play again - after more than 10 years) but I do not want to draw maps to the paper. :-) So, I had the idea to make simple application for automapping :-). If they grab a map piece, then you have one hell of a time finding them. As I said earlier, I went to the castle first and got that piece before the save corrupted, so I'm not sure what's next.
